Whether you have a Smart TV, a Roku, a Firestick, or something else entirely β here's exactly how to get Netflix up and running. No tech background needed.

If you're asking "how do I get Netflix on my TV?" β you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions I get. The answer depends on what kind of TV or device you have, but in most cases it takes less than 10 minutes once you know the steps.
Let's figure out your setup and walk through it together.
First: What Are You Working With?
How you get Netflix on your TV depends on which type of TV or streaming device you have. Take a quick look:
πΊ Smart TV
Samsung, LG, Vizio, TCL, Sony β these have built-in apps. Jump to Step 1 below.
π£ Roku Device or Roku TV
A small box or stick plugged into your TV, or a TV with Roku built in. Jump to the Roku section.
π₯ Amazon Firestick
A stick plugged into the back of your TV with an Amazon remote. Jump to the Firestick section.
π¦ Older TV (No Smart Features)
No apps, no internet connection. You'll need to add a device β see the last section.
Getting Netflix on a Smart TV
Most Smart TVs come with Netflix already installed. If you can't find it, here's how to add it:
Make sure your TV is connected to WiFi. Go to Settings β Network and confirm it shows "Connected." Everything depends on this step.
Go to your TV's home screen by pressing the Home button on your remote.
Look for an app store. It might be called Smart Hub (Samsung), LG Content Store (LG), or Apps (Vizio, Sony). Select it.
Search for Netflix. Use the on-screen keyboard β type it out slowly, it works even if it's slow.
Select Install or Add App and wait 1β3 minutes for it to download.
Open Netflix and sign in with your email and password. If you don't have an account yet, it's easiest to create one on your phone or computer first, then sign in on the TV.
π‘ Not sure which email you used for Netflix? Check your email inbox for a welcome message from Netflix β it will show the address you signed up with.
Getting Netflix on a Roku
Roku makes Netflix very easy to find. Here's how:
Press the Home button on your Roku remote (the one that looks like a little house).
Go to Streaming Channels or Search from the left menu.
Type Netflix and select it from the results.
Choose Add Channel β it installs in about a minute.
Open it and sign in with your Netflix email and password.
After that, Netflix will appear on your Roku home screen every time.
Getting Netflix on an Amazon Firestick
From the Firestick home screen, go to the search icon (magnifying glass) at the top.
Type Netflix using the on-screen keyboard or speak it into the microphone button on your remote.
Select Netflix from the results and choose Get or Download.
Once installed, open it and sign in with your Netflix account.
What If My TV Doesn't Have Apps at All?
If your TV is older and doesn't connect to the internet or show any apps, you have two good options:
Roku Streaming Stick β plugs into the back of your TV (HDMI port), costs around $30β$50, and gives you Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and more. Very easy to use.
Amazon Firestick β similar device, also plugs into HDMI, works well especially if you already use Amazon.
Either one will bring your older TV into the streaming age without buying a new TV.
π§ Common Problems & Quick Fixes
Netflix app won't open or keeps crashing β try unplugging your TV for 30 seconds and plugging it back in
Sign-in not working β reset your Netflix password from your phone or computer first, then try again on the TV
Can't find the app store on my TV β the TV may need a software update first; check Settings β Support β Software Update
Netflix says it's not available on this device β your TV may be too old to run the current Netflix app; adding a Roku or Firestick solves this
Video keeps buffering or looks blurry β this is usually a WiFi signal issue, not a Netflix problem
Still Stuck? Here's What I Can Do In Person
Sometimes reading instructions is one thing β actually doing it with your specific remote, your specific TV, and your specific WiFi setup is another. If you've tried these steps and it's still not working, or you'd just rather have someone come set it all up correctly the first time, that's exactly what I do.
I come to your home in Maple Grove, Plymouth, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, or the surrounding northwest Twin Cities area β and I don't leave until Netflix (and anything else you need) is working and you know how to use it.
Want Someone to Just Come Set It Up?
I'll come to your home, get Netflix working on every TV you need, and show you how to use it β at your pace, no rushing.
